Prometheus Bound

and the Others

Essays on the problems of inter-literary relations in general and the possibilities of association chains

between certain classical texts in particular

The book in two volumes for free download below

Under tentative consideration are certain impressive Greek and Roman monuments – the possibility of associations towards partial moments of the Early Christian literature. Areas deserving our interest are so abundant and fertile that merely essay discourses cannot be sufficient for a significant research. Therefore, we would appreciate it if the submitted pages were evaluated as an outline of certain fields of issues, which are based on the results of researchers’ work from various periods. We reproduce the familiar notices in many places.

Our essays can at best only move the horizon of attention to more sides at once. We were interested not only in the possible touch of some component of particular texts more exclusively (which is the goal of concentrational specialized monographs) but we are gradually probing  with a few chains, being led by association works of a few areas of classical literature.

Prometheus Bound and the Others

                                                                  (Volume One)

                      Philantropist                                        Ruler

Of the treasures of Greek literature motifs and then Roman fine literature of the so-called Golden Age, the following ones attracted us especially:

·      The motives included in the Prometheid (ie in the myth on the torture of a teaching and helping god - he "saved mortals so that they did not descend, blasted utterly, unto the house of Death") and the associations offered by them ...

 ·     the motifs and associations offered by records concerning

the ruler of the world, the saving Augustus (Divi Filius), later reaching apotheosis.

I n    c o n n e c t i o n    w i t h  t h a t

the phenomena of the ruler’s literary court.

          (Volume Two)

 Writer                                              Voyager

 ·      Some interesting notifications of the converted Horace as well as moments of his moralising rebukes and instructive epistolography as demonstrations of his effort to contribute to the strengthening of community lead by the celebrated ruler ...

 a l l   i n   c h a i n i n g   w i t h

 ·      the motives of the Aenean legend, which – cultivated by Virgil – were to enhance the trust in the pre-destination for both Augustus and his successors as well: to picture Rome as a centre devised by Heaven

(that all as distinct from the ways realized by Paul of Tarsus) ...

It is an extra-simplifying schema. It is only supposed to indicate the feeling: at least in this combination, while we are permanently aware of the links in a higher order of relevance to the  Hebrew literature – it is suitable to meditate over the   inter-literary relations of the studied spheres.

We have arrived at a widely open range of conceptions about possible affiliations in the effort to avoid comparative tendencies (that look for an “example” or “source” for nearly any literary work). Even if we feel the many layers of fine bonds, we are far from the assumption of simple tributary relation.
